hello john n all..

i have picked up a couple of peices for you all to look at.

now the first one is quite unusal..its a large what looks like tin and brass bulb vase ?

its quite large and old and has been painted with what looks like eastern characters...a little rusted in places but looks to have good age to it..

any idea's???

the second peice is a cast iron pig , thought it was a door stop at first but i believe its for your fire place?

p.s john i have also been looking at an original antique slate sundial in great condition...have you sold any in the past john.?

Why 1970.......... Is because all the antique fairs had these type of items for sale at the time and by now they must have rusted and look old.

sorry to change the subject john but what is the name of a print of a photograph which has been painted over to look like a watercolour?

only asking cause i have a couple of pictures i bought today..i bought them for the frames (i will post some pictures later) i got them home thinking they were prints then i looked at them through a glass and they have brushstokes etc.

that led me to believing they are watercolours.

but then it dawned on me they are just too perfect , look like photographs , then i realised thats what they may be.

Are you referring to an oileograph. I do not know how to spell it.

i know you cant form an opinion of a painting via photograph.

but do you see what i mean about them being too perfect to be watercolours?

do you think they could be daguerreotypes john?

A BIG NO..............Not a daguerreotype or tin types. They are photographs on glass that look they are on silver. when you tilt them the image can fade.

What you have do not look like photographs to me. They look like very good quality water colours.
Get your glass out and look through it.
If you see dots, then they are lithographs. But I do not think so.

Hard to tell from your photograph, may be a good quality print.
rub your finger over them that will tell you if paint or ink.
I through this open to other opinions.

might have to take the backs of to check fully caus i cant see no dots just brushstrokes..

hope they are watercolours because even though they are not signed they would be fabulous quality..

i paid £4 each for them (to be honest i bought them for the tortoise shell vineer frames.)

hello...i have recently contacted bonhams regarding this tin bulb vase thing.

they got back to me today requesting that i send them better photographs of the peice but they think its a very interesting peice possibly indian and dating from the late 18th century - early 19th century...

the plot thickens......

i will keep you all informed.

I would get more for this picture at the present due to the financial climate.

im sure you have got the experience and knowledge to hold on to it.

expecially when the tate gallery are holding their very first watercolour exibition very shortly..

maybe mine will go up in value aswell..

true quality is the only thing with a chance in the antiques game now.

the times they are a changing.

john could i ask you to take one more look at this peice, i am not exactly sure what to do with it.

it only cost me £25 so i am not sure if i should just try making a quick profit or hold onto it for a better price.

bonhams told me they think its late 18th/ early 19th century indian (and could be quite interesting) then they asked for more pictures and told me they would get back to me with a valuation, well its been over a month now and i still have no word back from them.

i recently (well over week ago) sent some pictures of the item to christies and have recieved no word back yet.

i am unsure what to do now.
