Laws will restrict drones from flying above 400 feet and within 1 kilometre of airport boundaries.
the government is introducing height limits to help make sure drones are used safely as the sector grows
limits around airports are being tightened up with new restrictions to prevent drones from causing harm
owners will have to register their drones and take online safety tests to improve accountability
New laws being introduced today (30 May 2018) will restrict all drones from flying above 400 feet and within 1 kilometre of airport boundaries.
Following a year-on-year increase in the report of drone incidents with aircraft – with 89 in 2017 - these measures will reduce the possibility of damage to windows and engines of planes and helicopters. The changes will come into effect on 30 July 2018.
The new laws will also require owners of drones weighing 250 grams or more to register with the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and for drone pilots to take an online safety test to ensure the UK’s skies are safe from irresponsible flyers. These requirements will come into force on 30 November 2019.
The government just don't get it do they. Scumbags don's abide by laws or regulations. Plus.. Who is going to enforce the laws.. The same couple of Police officers who are already responsible for the previous 18billion laws and regulations, plus this one?

I've just got myself a drone, All positioned by GPS. Has the flying limitations built into the software. They are amazingly safe nowadays. I'd have said this was more of an issue 5 or so years ago.

Not all drones are set up in this way, plus of course the idiots out there will do everything to avoid or override any presets.

That's correct. The ones at the cheaper end of the market don't have the GPS safety features incorporated.
I listened to a pilot on the radio yesterday describe the 400 feet limit and one kilometre exclusion zone as ridiculous. He stated that a jumbo jet coming in to land was already below that height at one kilometre out.

I understand these laws because drones are very little to notice them. Personally, I rarely use my drone and to be honest, I bought the best drone for gopro just for making good videos and uploading them on youtube. So, the questions of law are very important for me
