Sefton is the latest area to be reviewed as part of a wider review of the whole Liverpool City Region bus network, with the aim of creating an improved and simpler network.

It’s also about ensuring that the increasingly limited funding we have for supported services – those services that are funded by Merseytravel as they are not commercially viable – are used in the most effective way and focused where there is most need.

People who live or work in Sefton will be able to comment on proposed changes to the area’s bus network during a final consultation period starting on Monday 16th January through until Thursday 26th January.

Details of the proposed changes, including maps, can be found by following the link below.

There will be three drop-in events where members of the public can speak to Merseytravel staff about the proposals and give their feedback. These will take place on the following days:

  • Friday 20th January - Maghull Library, 10am - 3pm
  • Monday 23rd January - Southport Railway Station, 10am - 2pm
  • Thursday 26th January - Bootle Strand, 9am - 4pm

This consultation period follows events in September and October which saw over 1200 people attend and more than 800 offer their feedback on their frequency and pattern of bus use , including those services publically funded by Merseytravel, and what might make them use buses more.

We are working with bus operators to ensure that passengers will have alternative provision available within their area if a service is removed or changed. Any changes will come into effect in April 2017.

It is likely that we will look to extend or re-route some commercial services i.e. those without public subsidy, to cover areas previously served by publicly supported services.
To make the network easier to understand we do plan for services on the same routes operating under the same number whatever the time of day where possible.
