Blackpool were pegged back and forced to settle for a point, despite racing into a two-goal lead against Crewe Alexandra.

Goals from Nathan Delfouneso and Tom Aldred gave The Seasiders the lead in under 30 minutes of the first-half.

They were to be pulled back, however, with goals from Chris Dagnall and Ollie Turton for the visitors after they were revitalised in the second-half.

Jamille Matt went close to making it three with the score at 2-1 but could only find the opposing goalkeeper when one-on-one.

Blackpool were in front with just under nine minutes on the clock after absorbing early pressure from Crewe. Brad Potts found space to run into on the left and whipped an inviting cross to the back post. There waiting was Delfouneso to freely nod home to score his third goal in a tangerine shirt since returning last month.

Shortly after, Delfouneso’s strike partner Vassell went close from a similar position after another move down Pool’s left, but could only force a save from close range from Crewe goalkeeper Ben Garratt.

Colin Daniel furthered Blackpool’s pressure on the opposition goal, linking up well with Potts, but his snapshot went just wide of the mark.

The Seasiders’ rampant attack added another with half an hour gone. Defender Aldred blasted home in the bottom corner after fine work from Kelvin Mellor inside the Crewe penalty area following a Jordan Flores set-piece.

In an open and flowing half, both sides enjoyed spells of possession, but Blackpool’s attacking force was much more potent. Crewe did find themselves with a handful of half chances, however. Most notably through defender Jon Guthrie, who headed over Sam Slocombe’s goal shortly before half-time.

The Alex created their best chance of the half just after. Callum Cooke’s shot-***-cross across Sloocombe’s goal fizzed its way through to Dagnall, but the striker somehow shot over the bar from a tight angle.

    Half-time score: Blackpool 2 Crewe Alexandra 0

Delfouneso continued to threaten after the interval, his quick feet forged an opening outside the area, where unleashed a left footed strike. Unfortunately for Blackpool, Garratt was again on hand to make a save.

With over an hour gone, Crewe got themselves back in the game. Callum Cooke looked destined to score for the visitors but Slocombe pulled off a great save from close range. Despite the Pool goalkeeper’s best efforts, however, poacher Dagnall was there to prod home the rebound.

Revitalised by their goal, Crewe tested Blackpool’s resolve further as the half went on. Ben Nugent stretched at the back post from a deep cross, but could only send the ball to the visiting supporters.

Dagnall yet again was next to go close for The Alex, his half-volley fizzed across the Blackpool goal but failed to threaten Slocombe.

Matt was introduced as Vassell hobbled off, and he almost put the game to bed late on as he went one-on-one with the Crewe goalkeeper. Garratt was to come out on top, though, as the Jamaican striker was pushed slightly wide.

Just as it looked like Gary Bowyer’s side was going to hold on to all three points, Blackpool were hit with a sucker punch as defender Turton converted into the corner from a superb volley inside the Pool box to equalise.

Substitute Alex Kiwomya was close to completing a turnaround from Crewe, only a super, low save from Slocombe prevented a late winner for the Chelsea loanee.
