A woman told how she was left traumatised when she fell into the hands of an illegal dentist in Blackpool

The clinical assessor who helps train nurses was treated by the guesthouse owner in dirty conditions including a paint spattered kitchen sink.

Before a court was 69 year old Lynda Collins of Gynway Guesthouse,Dickson Road,Blackpool,Lancs was found guilty of practicing illegal dentistry.
The seaside guest house was also the premises known as Central Dental Laboratory which Collins- advertised on the Internet and in her front window.

Blackpool Magistrates were told by General Dental Council prosecutor Jenny Stewart:”Lynda Collins is not registered with the council not ever has been as a dental care professional.”
Victim-ex full time nurse and now hospital assessor Mrs Melanie Taylor told the hearing how she had broken a denture but could not get an appointment from her own dentist.
Her practice told her to use Google to try and find a technican who could assist her she she was due to give a speech that day,
She contacted Central Dental Laboratory who said they could help,She attended their premises and found it strange it was housed in a guesthouse.
“I thought it was odd because it was a hotel,” she said,
The victim was told to wait in the lounge whilst an attempt to mend the denture was carried out.
Collins tried to push the denture into place but it would not fit and this caused Mrs Taylor some pain.
She went on:”I could see they were not in line- not smooth. She said I would need to have a new plate.”
“She had brought the denture to me in a tea towel.”
“She took me into a room with a kitchen sink. The sink was spattered with paint. It was a small dirty room with shelves.”
“She mixed some powder with water in a cup and then pushed something like a gumshield into my mouth to take an impression with pink gel holding it in place in Mrs Taylor’s mouth.
“It was traumatic she pushed it in.I thought this cannot be happening to me and I wanted out of the place.I paid her £20.”

“As soon as I could I took the denture out-There was nothing sterile.I was frightened to death- traumatised as I feared I would get an infection it was so dirty.”
“She had taken her equipment out of what appeared to be an old ice cream container”
“ It thought this could not be happening to me.”
“Lynda Collins seemed to be getting annoyed with me because it was going wrong.”
The magistrates were told how Mrs Taylor later complained to the General Dental Council about her experience. She took picture of the so called laboratory and looked up Collins on the Internet and screen shot the advert.
An investigation was launched and the council said that Collins was not registered with them and could not carry out out any hand to mouth treatment including impressions.
The court heard how the Dental Council had written to Collins previous to the incident telling her to stop doing hand to mouth dental work.
Collins denied having the equipment to carry out what the victim had said and said she had thrown her dental equipment on the tip some time before.
She said she had no recent qualifications and had “trained in life.”
She admitted not keeping patient records or a diary of appointments.
Collins was fined £180 and ordered to pay £590 costs.
