Blackpool’s RNLI volunteers were called out at 8.25am this morning after a person was spotted in the sea at Cleveleys.

The casualty was up to his neck in water and in urgent need of assistance.

The charity’s Atlantic 85 lifeboat reached the scene within minutes and helped the casualty from the water. Once onboard the lifeboat it was clear that the casualty was suffering from the effects of the cold so the volunteer crew asked the D class lifeboat that had just arrived on scene to take the man to the shore where paramedics were waiting to treat him.

This incident comes just two days after Blackpool’s RNLI volunteers were involved in a major search at Rossall after a man was seen walking into the sea. Blackpool and Fleetwood RNLI lifeboats launched and search alongside the Coastguard and Police.

Volunteer Lifeboat Operations Manager Keith Horrocks MBE said, ‘Our volunteers did a brilliant job this morning, they reached the casualty really quickly and were able to stop a serious situation from becoming a tragedy.

As summer approaches this incident serves as a timely reminder to visitors and locals alike. The beach is a fantastic place to spend time, especially when the weather is good, but please be mindful of the incoming tide and remain vigilant at all times. Remember to call 999 and ask for the Coastguard if you spot any problems or you get into difficulty.’
