Fire crews have warned against leaving e-cigarettes on charge following a fire in Blackpool.



The incident happened at around 2am this morning (10.2.17) at a property on Preston New Road.

The occupier managed to unplug the device before wrapping it in a dressing gown and placing it outside.

Lancashire Fire and Rescue released this statement:

One appliance from South Shore and one appliance from Blackpool attended a fire in a property caused by an e –cigarette that was on charge and had caught fire. The occupier unplugged and wrapped the battery in a dressing gown and placed it outside causing severe damage to the dressing gown. Slight smoke damage to the property.

This incident could have been worse if the occupier had been asleep and not had working smoke alarms.

Please do not leave e-cigarettes on charge overnight and always ensure that the correct charger for the cigarettes are being used
