Engines from across the Fylde were called out at around 00:50 this morning to the Chequers Plaza.

It's believed the fire, which effected the 2nd and 3rd floors, could have been caused by an electrical fault.

Nobody was injured.

The fire service released this statement:

The Fire Service attended a fire on the 2nd and 3rd floor of the hotel due to a suspected electrical fault in the void between the floors. The high winds on the sea front and the complex layout of the building could of resulted in rapid fire spread and large scale incident. However, due to the good fire safety systems in place at the hotel and the Lancashire Fire and Rescue service policy of 4 appliance initial turnout to commercial fires, all the residents and staff were evacuated without injury. The Fire Service then surrounded the fire preventing any further escalation and extinguished the fire using 4 Firefighters in Breathing Apparatus and hose reels water supplies. The incident lasted for approximately 3 hours including the on-scene investigation. Damage was contained to 3 rooms.
