Blackpool’s new school will be called the Armfield Academy.



The school on the former Arnold site in South Shore will be named after football legend Jimmy Armfield after education bosses asked for suggestions.

It will cater for almost 1,200 when it opens next year.

It had been set to be called the Avenue Academy, but John Topping from the Fylde Coast Academy Trust says honouring Jimmy is the right thing to do. Click below to listen to an interview with John on the name and future plans for the site:
