AFC Fylde manager Dave Challinor admits he is ‘all revved up with no place to go’ this weekend after the Coasters’ trip to Torquay United was called off.

The pitch at Plainmoor was deemed unplayable on Friday morning before the squad travelled and the match was postponed, along with all but one of the National League fixtures across the country.

Fylde headed into the weekend looking to consolidate their play-off position against relegation threatened Torquay but could slip a place with promotion rivals Dover Athletic scheduled to take on Leyton Orient in the only game currently going ahead.

The Coasters will now face a gruelling trip to Devon on a Tuesday night but Challinor admits the club are now more than prepared to cope with such situations.

Challinor said: “The irony is that whilst most of the country has ground to a halt, we are here with a pitch that is playable.

“It’s probably the best it has been for a while, so we have the pitch but no one to play!

“With the number of games that have already been called off, it was inevitable that ours would be. It helps that it was called off well in advance so we can properly prepare for next week.

“To go there on a Tuesday night would have been difficult a couple of years ago as a part-time club however we are geared up for situations like that now.

“We may stay over on the Monday night or after the game but either way, we will do what we feel most benefits our chances of success.

“Momentum can stop as quickly as it starts so it doesn’t matter when the next game comes. Granted we have worked all week towards facing Torquay, but Monday is the start of a new week and attention will be switched to next weekend against Aldershot for what is a massive game.

“The lads will have a chance to put their feet up now and whilst I would normally go to another game, I think I might struggle to find one that’s on!”
