Blackpool Council is welcoming people’s views on their ambitious plans to improve the housing market and address homelessness within the town.
Housing Strategy

The Housing Strategy presents the council’s approach to address the housing issues within the borough. It sets the vision and priorities to support the delivery of the council’s plan to make Blackpool a great place to live in with a thriving economy that supports a happy and healthy community.

The strategy is built around four key themes:

New housing supply
Improving the private rented sector
Stabilising lives
increasing delivery capacity
Homelessness Prevention Strategy

Blackpool Council has also developed a Homelessness Prevention strategy to address the increasing number of individuals facing homelessness within the borough. The strategy focusses on three key areas:

Preventing homelessness by working with partners to identify risk and intervene earlier
Resolve homelessness efficiently to minimise harm to an individual’s health and well being
Support individuals to avoid repeat homelessness.
Cllr Christine Wright, Blackpool Council Cabinet Member for Housing, said: “Finding a home is so important to both families and individuals. A stable home underpins successful education, employment and maintenance of good health.

“Reducing and preventing homelessness is also crucial for people’s well-being and we are committed to ensure that our strategies help deliver better lives in our community. We really want to hear people’s thoughts on both these really important issues.”

Views are welcomed on both strategies which can be found on the council’s website www.blackpool.gov.uk/Consultations by 20th March 2018. A printed copy is available by calling 01253 477618 or at reception in the Municipal Building, Corporation Street.
