People with dementia and their carers are invited to come along to the annual Dancing with Dementia event on Wednesday 14 June.

The popular event is set to return for the fourth year running and will take place at the prestigious Empress Ballroom in the Winter Gardens from 11am-4pm.

For just £10 per person, guests will enjoy an afternoon of ballroom dancing, refreshments including a delicious afternoon tea, music and a host of dementia-friendly activities.

Entertainment will be provided by the mighty Wurlitzer organ, professional displays of Latin and Ballroom dancing, a choir, free raffle and much more.

Information will be available on the day about dementia services and support as well as details on how to become part of the official “Dementia Friends” campaign.

Dr Arif Rajpura, Blackpool Council’s Director of Public Health said: “As always, we hope that people living with dementia, as well as families and carers can take advantage of the range of support services available at this event in the magnificent Empress Ballroom.

“From navigating health and social care to accessing local information, it’s important that people know how to access the appropriate support.

"The event is open to all members of the public as we want to discuss how to improve the lives of carers and people with dementia as well as involving the wider community to raise awareness of how to spot the early signs and symptoms of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.

“We’re hoping to see a record number of people attend this year’s event.”

Dementia is caused when the brain is damaged by diseases, such as Alzheimer’s disease or a series of strokes.

Dementia describes a set of symptoms that may include memory loss and difficulties with thinking, problem-solving or language.

These changes are often small to start with, but for someone with dementia they have become severe enough to affect daily life.

The Alzheimer’s Society runs a scheme called Dementia Friends.
