Nathan Delfouneso says he has no recollection of the injury he sustained against Charlton Athletic in midweek, though the news is positive in terms of his recovery.

The forward clashed heads with Lewis Page in the 17th minute of the match and was stretchered off after being assessed by the physio and paramedics.

The 27-year-old was then checked over at the hospital and allowed to return home the same night.

“I’ve no idea what happened, though I’ve watched it back since and it did look a heavy hit. My memory of everything is very little but I’m OK now and moving towards recovering,” Delfouneso said.

“I don’t even remember getting stretchered off. I couldn’t even tell you much about the ambulance ride – whether it was rough, smooth or playing music.

“But they checked my neck and my spine and everything was alright. I’m just grateful for that because it obviously could have been a lot worse.”

In his absence, the team went on to pick up a vital three points and then dedicated the victory to him.

“I know the game went on a little bit longer due to a lengthy stoppage – I apologise if everyone was late getting home – but I was buzzing that we got the three points.”

Though back at Bloomfield Road today, Delfouneso will now follow concussion protocols and miss the weekend’s fixture against Southend United.

“Unfortunately I can’t play on Saturday, though I wish I could. I even left my boots on at the hospital for quite a while!

“But I’ll be here supporting the boys and hopefully I’ll be back involved next week,” he added.
