A Seaside Safety guide is being launched in time for the Easter holidays to ensure that anyone using the beaches has a safe and fun time.

Blackpool Council has issued a new Seaside Safety Guide ahead of the Easter weekend to help keep families and children safe on the shoreline.
Local schools have already received the useful guide, which highlights the need to stay safe on Blackpool’s award-winning beaches and whilst taking a dip in the sea.
The new guide will be available from the Beach Patrol Headquarters on Middle Walk, at the Tourist Information Centre and also online through the Blackpool Council website at www.blackpool.gov.uk/beachsafety
It includes details on some of the hazards that people may encounter and explains the safety signs used to warn of dangers, red for prohibition, yellow for hazards and blue for mandatory actions.
From being washed out to sea, pulled under by a strong current or simply misjudging the conditions when they are dangerous, it’s essential for people to understand that every beach is different and has its own set of hazards.
Cllr Gillian Campbell, deputy leader of Blackpool Council, said: “We always welcome people to our fantastic beaches in Blackpool but we want everyone to stay as safe as possible when near or in the sea.
“People need to be aware of waves, as well as currents and rip tides going on below the surface. These can change quickly and catch swimmers off guard leading to a potentially dangerous situation.
“We also encourage people to be aware of aware of incoming tides and sandbanks – be careful not to get cut-off by the tide when walking on the beach.
“Our new Seaside Safety Guide identifies some key safety tips on what to watch out for along the shoreline to help families make the most of their visit to the beach.
“If you are visiting the seafront this year, we’d ask you to help us keep it a safe and clean place for all residents and visitors. Please take your litter home with you, use the many bins available and pick up after your dog.”
Blackpool welcomes responsible dog owners. Dogs are currently allowed on all areas of the beach during March and April, although exclusion zones are in place between North Pier and the Mirrorball from May to September. Dogs must be kept on a lead on the promenade at all times throughout the year.
