Homelessness charity Emmaus Merseyside is celebrating after receiving an award from the High Sheriff of Merseyside.

On Tuesday 5 March, Marc Bamber, Chief Operating Officer at Emmaus Merseyside was presented with a High Sheriff of Merseyside Award in recognition of services to the community. The High Sheriff of Merseyside, Dr Ruth Hussey CB OBE DL, presented the awards to people and organisations making a fantastic contribution to communities across Merseyside.

Emmaus Merseyside is an award-winning charity that provides a home, training, work opportunities and individual support to people who have experienced homelessness.

Commenting on the award, Marc said: “I was thrilled to have attended the High Sheriff of Merseyside Awards and even more thrilled to have received an award. Although the award may be in my name, it’s an award to all who have helped shape what Emmaus Merseyside is today.

“This High Sheriff of Merseyside Award is an award for our amazing Emmaus companions, volunteers, trustees, and staff team. On behalf of everyone at Emmaus Merseyside, I would like to congratulate all the award winners and thank the High Sheriff for this special recognition.”

Dr Ruth Hussey visited Emmaus Merseyside’s community home in Seaforth in January to see first-hand the support offered to formerly homeless people. During the awards ceremony, the High Sherrif paid tribute to charity’s work in giving people a fresh start, skills, training and valuable experiences.

The High Sheriff of Merseyside, Dr Ruth Hussey CB OBE DL, said: “Marc Bamber brings huge energy and enthusiasm to his work at Emmaus, backed by a great team and ambitious Board of Trustees. I was very impressed by the vital work they do to support people who are homeless.”
