Members of staff at Liverpool’s Aintree University Hospital who also volunteer in the Army Reserve were joined by Chief Executive Steve Warburton to help mark Reserves Day 2017.

The national event, which takes place on Wednesday 21 June, includes organisations across the country using social media to highlight how their staff also serve in the forces, and the benefits which this brings back in the UK.

Staff at Aintree University Hospital have a very strong connection with the Army Reserve Liverpool (208) Field Hospital, with staff having been deployed in recent years to the Basra Field Hospital, the busiest trauma unit in the world. The Field Hospital is one of 11 run nationally by the Army Reserve.

Steve said: “We are proud to support our staff reservists, who use the skills they have developed during their military training and overseas deployments to improve services back here at Aintree. For example, some of our developments in the regional trauma centre have been informed by lessons learned from our staff on deployment. Their time as reservists is helping our patients back here in Liverpool.”

Staff at the hospital have also served in other reserve units across the region, in a variety of roles, including drivers and chaplaincy.
