    autism and antiques

I have come across many people who have autism, but this is about 2 of those people..

1st a boy who reads records

2nd is a boy who stopped in his tracks.

In the days on my American connection I was visiting one of my antique shops when a family came in with a child about 12/13 who obviously was autistic.

I had heard of autistic children using parts of the brain that where not used by people who where not autistic. So I asked his sister who was about 15 if her brother had any hidden tallents. She said he can read plastic 45's and EP's and LP's records.

When I opened my King Street Shop Southport back in the 1990's I heard a boy aged about 14 screaming out side the shop, he was jumping up and down making a racket. I could not help noticing he was autistic. I walked past him carrying a painting into the shop. He saw the painting and instantly stopped crying, shouting, moaning and his eyes where fixed on the oil painting. He stood still. I stopped and showed him the painting. He became very calm. His family told me this had happened once before when he was 2 or 3 they took him to a museum as a baby and he started to shout and cry and then stopped when he saw a particular painting. They thought it was a Picasso , but where not sure.

I then realized that the £50 painting I was carrying must be very valuable and may be painted by an artist that had not been discovered.

I then started buying painting by this artist for between £20 and £100, eventually I had well over 100. I did eventual pay over £1800 for one but by this time lots of people had cottoned on to what I was doing.

    who was that artist.

post and I will PM you.

As I am not accustomed to autism I hope I do not offend any one by my use or choice of words.
