Antiques Thread: Titanic ships bed.

  1. #1

    Titanic ships bed.

    Hello there,
Some years ago I purchased an old mahogany bed from a car boot sale, for about £15 if I remember correctly. I was looking through a book on the Titanic and, to my surprise there was the identical bed fitted to the first class staterooms.

I know it’s not off the Titanic as they are all at the bottom of the ocean, but it may have been of its sister ship.

Sadly it’s lost its side rail and some inches of its legs.Which comes to my question is it something that you would think right to restore,or leave as is.

I have know idea of value, from this brief information do you have any idea of an approx value.

A Titanic stateroom below with the same bed.

    many thanks, D.

    Hi, sounds very interesting.

    first post a photograph

and then we can all see the bed in its condition..... restoration would be the way to go to get you £15 investment back.

and may be some big profit.

    Very nice.

My advice it to contact a Major auction house

    Sothebys.
    Christie
    Bonhams

and put the bed in a nautical sale, stating it is an identical bed as the one off the Titanic and has probably come off the SS Olympic

    and let the punters decide

It must bring £3,000 to £5,000

    DO NOT HAVE IT RESTORED

    Hello,

Thanks for you reply, Im more of the mind to donate to a maritime museum or similar.

Can I ask why you think restoration should now not take place?

    kind regards.
