Cian Bolger’s second half header was enough for all three points as Fleetwood won 1-0 at MK Dons.

Bolger 61st minute header from George Glendon’s corner now means Uwe Rosler’s side are 16 matches unbeaten in Sky Bet League One.

The win comes as the club’s second win in four days following an excellent 2-1 win against Bradford City on Tuesday night.

Prior to kick-off Rosler made just two changes to the side that managed to fight back from a goal down to beat Bradford City last time out. Midfielders Bobby Grant and George Glendon were both recalled to the side, with Markus Schwabl and David Ball dropping to the bench.

For the opposition manager Robbie Neilson, he also made two changes to his starting line-up that drew against Bury on Tuesday.

The home side enjoyed the majority of possession in the opening stages of the game, however with the abundance of personnel in midfield Fleetwood rarely looked threatened and were able to soak up the pressure well.

That was until the fifteenth minute when MK Dons thought they had broken the deadlock after a spectacular 20-yard effort from Harvey Barnes, which had beat Alex Cairns in goal, but was unable to beat the frame of the bar.

The pressure on Cairns’ goal mounted, and again Neilson’s side thought they had taken the lead with a quarter of the game gone but striker Chuks Aneke’s reverse header landed just wide of the target.

Cameron Brannagan dropped deeper in midfield as the half led to the close and was able to utilise his range of passing, but Town were unable to force any real efforts onto David Martin’s goal.

As the half threatened to conclude into a stalemate between the two sides – that is exactly what occurred as the two sides were unable to breach the other.

Rosler’s side started the second-half the better, however Aneke had the best chance of the opening exchanges but his shot from six yards went wide.

Ball replaced Brannagan, in an attempt to force the game.

Shortly after, Fleetwood thought they had taken the header when defender Ashley Eastham’s looped header from a Glendon corner beat everyone but defender George Baldock, who cleared well off the line.

Lightening seemed to strike twice as on 56 minutes, as following another Glendon set-piece, Bolger’s header was acrobatically cleared off the line by Stuart O’Keefe. Ben Davies’ resulting follow up effort was well gathered by Martin.

However, it was third time lucky for Town, as after the third Glendon set-piece Martin could do nothing to stop Bolger’s barnstorming header after the 61st minute. A goal the away side thoroughly deserved.

Rosler’s second change of the game came after Conor McLaughlin limped off injured, to be replaced by ex-Barcelona defender Godswill Epkolo.

With fifteen minutes to go Rosler played his last card and after putting in a stellar shift up-front, Devante Cole was replaced with the lively Ashley Hunter.

As the game reached a conclusion, Neilson’s side continued to force the equaliser but it was to no avail as Town defended amicably.

The win now sees Fleetwood stretch their unbeaten run to 16 games and record their first ever win over MK Dons.
