The long running saga over a scheme to build flats on the Fleetwood Pier site is back before planners today.

The proposals to build 15 properties aimed at the over 55s and retail space on the pier site has now attracted more than 1,100 objections.

Despite this, the plans have been recommended to be approved by Wyre Council.

Campaigners against the scheme say it would ruin the seafront landscape, while those in favour say the plans would help to regenerate the town.

The pier was destroyed by fire in 2008 and the site has been unoccupied ever since.

A group of people are staging a silent protest at the site this morning during a visit by planning officers ahead of the meeting to decide its future which takes place this afternoon.
