Police were called around 5.15pm yesterday (Thursday, May 11) after reports of an accident on Amounderness Way.



A Triumph Trophy motorbike and a Mercedes car had been involved in a collision close to Norcross roundabout.

The motorcyclist, a 61-year-old man from the Altrincham area, suffered fractures to his back and ribs, as well as a broken arm and was taken to Royal Preston Hospital for treatment.

The driver of the Mercedes, a 40-year-old woman from Carleton, was not injured.

The road was fully re-opened more than two hours later.

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward following the collision.

Sgt David Hurst, of Lancashire Police, said: “We are appealing for information after a road traffic collision in Thornton.

“A man has been left with some serious injuries and we want to establish exactly what happened.

“We are keen to talk to anyone who saw either vehicle before the collision, or witnessed the incident, to contact us.”
