Uwe Rosler says victory over Morecambe on Tuesday night in the Checkatrade Trophy is key as his side look to progress to the knockout stages of the competition.

Rosler’s side - who currently top the Northern Group A after a 3-0 win over Leicester City U21s last month - host The Shrimps with a win enough to see Town progress.

The German insisted that his side have only one thing on their mind ahead of Tuesday’s match at Highbury.

“We want to win the game,” stated Rosler.

“We know it will take us to the next round – which for us is the key. Some players will go again and will have to go again, which is good to build confidence, but some players need a break.

“I will definitely give some players a rest because some needed it after today [Charlton].

“It’s important that players who have not started a lot of games will come on and give a good performance, and give the coaches confidence that they can be ready for the first team.

“At the moment we are having too much up and downs but I am pretty calm because I expected that.

“The players showed a great reaction from the win at Bradford last Tuesday, but I told the players that the game against Charlton was my mistake – I should have refreshed things.”

One of those players who looks set to come into the fold is Baily Cargill, who returned to the bench for Saturday’s game with Charlton.

“He will start against Morecambe,” confirmed Rosler.

“It’s a good test for him to get 90 minutes under his belt, which we think we benefit him.”
