The Sheraton Trophy has been presented to Isabella Hendry in recognition of her wide range of success across sport.

Isabella, 11, is a pupil at St Wulstan’s and St Edmond’s Catholic Primary School and has represented her school in a variety of sports including football, tag rugby, cross country, swimming, dancing, cricket and athletics.

Isabella suffers from Cystic Fibrosis, a genetic condition which affects the lungs and digestive system, but Isabella does not let this get in the way of her ambitions.

Isabella’s father, Mr. Neil Hendry said: “Izzy's lust for life and infectious personality are visible to all who meet her, but it is through sports she really shines.”

Not only did Isabella represent her school in this huge number of activities but she was made sports ambassador for her school. In this role she actively represents the school, writes blogs on events and constantly encourages other children to take part in sporting events.

Mr. Neil Hendry continued: “I feel Izzy is a true inspiration to many people young and old and a prime example that nothing is impossible to achieve.”

At the meeting, Isabella said: “It was a big surprise and I didn’t even find out that I’d won until I arrived!

“I’m really looking forward to continuing to be involved in so many sporting activities.”

The Sheraton Trophy takes its name from HMS Sheraton which was awarded the Freedom of the Borough in recognition of work done in Fleetwood by the crew during the 1977 flood emergency when the ship was visiting the port.

Isabella was awarded the trophy by outgoing Mayor or Wyre, Councillor Terry Lees.

The new Mayor of Wyre for 2017/18 was announced as Councillor Alice Collinson and Deputy Mayor of Wyre is Councillor Julie Robinson. They were officially installed at Wyre Council's annual general meeting held at the Civic Centre in Poulton.

Councillor Alice Collinson’s chosen charities for the year are Marie Curie and North West Air Ambulance.
