    Police have charged two men with burglary as part of Operation Castle, the force's ongoing response to burglary offences across Merseyside.

    21-year-old Lewis Callaghan and 24-year-old Dale Kelly were charged with two counts of burglary, in relation to offences in Formby in June in which various items were stolen, including jewellery, cash and electrical equipment.

    They have been remanded in custody to appear at Liverpool Magistrates Court this morning, Thursday 7 June.

    We have arrested two men in Formby on suspicion of burglary as part of Operation Castle, the force's ongoing response to burglary offences across Merseyside.

    At around 11am yesterday (Tuesday, 5 June), a report was received of two men being seen acting suspiciously close to a house on Argarmeols Road, Formby. They were seen running towards Freshfield railway station. Following work alongside British Transport Police (BTP), one man was detained.

    An area search was commenced, including dog patrols with PD Ollie (below), who detained the second man hiding in bushes in the front garden of a house on Victoria Road. Suspected stolen items were recovered from the scene. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the origin of these items.

    A 21-year-old man and a 24-year-old man, both from Aigburth, were arrested on suspicion of burglary dwelling and were taken to a police station for questioning.

    Superintendent Matt Boyle said: "Operation Castle will continue to pursue and put before the courts anyone suspected of being involved in burglary offences within our communities.

    "If you see or hear anyone acting suspiciously close to homes or businesses, let us know and we will work alongside our partners in finding those responsible."
