Detectives investigating the escape from lawful custody of Shaun Colin Walmsley are appealing to football fans out watching Engalnd's World Cup games to report any sightings of him, both home and abroad.

Officers have been working with police forces across the UK and overseas to locate Walmsley, who escaped from the custody of prison officers outside Aintree University Hospital 16 months ago on Tuesday 21 February 2017.

Detective Chief Superintendent Natalie Perischine said: "Our officers continue to search for Shaun Walmsley and are confident we will return him to custody.

"We are today asking for the public's help - they can be our eyes and ears, and anyone out in bars and venues in the UK and abroad to watch the World Cup could hold the key to sending this convcited murderer back to jail.

"There has been a lot of publicity around the escape and people may not think what they know is useful, but any images, footage or information could be exceptionally valuable.

"I want to reemphasise that having any association with Walmsley, criminal or otherwise, will be bring police to your door, as it has already for many of his associates in the past few months.

"I would urge people to take another look at Walmsley's photograph in case they see someone fitting his description either in Liverpool or further afield. There is currently a reward of £20,000 on offer for information leading to the apprehension of Walmsley and his return to prison."

Officers are reminding the public not to approach Walmsley if they see him, as he is could be in the company of others who helped him escape and they are believed to be armed. Walmsley himself is also described as dangerous.

Officers would ask anyone who may come into contact with Walmsley to contact the police on 999. Anyone who may have information which could help with the investigation is asked to contact Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
