Police are appealing for witnesses after a man fell to his death from a bridge over the M55 on Friday morning.
Officers were called at around 9.40am to the eastbound carriageway, around a mile from junction one, following reports a man had been seen falling from the Sandy Lane road bridge.
Tthe man was pronounced deceased at the scene. He has since been named as Martin Bird, aged 68 and from Ingol, who has been described by his family as 'much-loved'.
His death is currently not being treated as suspicious.
Lane one of the M55 was closed for around three hours while specialist officers attended. The investigation is ongoing and police would now like to speak to anybody who saw the incident, or saw the man in the moments before the incident occurred.
Sergeant Finn Quainton, of the Roads Policing Unit, said: "This was a tragic incident in which a man lost his life and first and foremost our thoughts are with Mr Bird's family and friends.
"We are now appealing for anybody who saw him in the moments before his death, or saw the incident unfold, to contact us as soon as possible. The M55 was busy at that time in the morning, and there may well have been cars travelling over the Sandy Lane bridge, so we believe several people will have seen what happened.
"If you have any information that can help us piece together what occurred, we would urge you to get in touch as soon as possible."
Anybody with information is asked to contact us on 101, quoting log number 358 of September 8th.
