Yet they give nothing to the locals directly affected by the Open and its preparation.
Maybe a Golfer could tell us what they directly do for the area.

I would think all hotels are fully booked, all of whom will need to be fed & watered. Many people no doubt will go the golf one or two days but stay longer so more money into the local economy.

The winner gets $1.8 million (USD) roughly £1.4 million (GBP), the winner of Wimbledon gets £2.2 million (GBP)!

I have friends who live in the Isle of Man whose house front is on the TT course. They are inconvenienced to a far greater degree than anyone is by the Open and this is an annual occurrence.
The main difference being that they appreciate the benefits to their area and it's economy such an influx of people brings.
Sometimes I'm embarrassed to be a Sandgrounder.

Sounds great for the business owners, however, the majority of workers, are on minimum wage, they will not get a share of that money but there workload will be more, many of them will have to find the money for extra childcare as the schools are closing slightly earlier for the summer due to the golf, so hopefully they'll get tips, at least enough to cover childcare costs! They also cancelled our schools sports day, for the golf ... still baffled over that one.
The kids, well they get off school early, but, they can't go to their local park, as it's now going to be a car park. Last time this stupid open was on, they ripped out the play area on Carr Lane, then charged a small fortune for parking, 'money into the economy' you say, well it didn't get used to replace the play area, a printed A4 sign was put up claiming they were 'seeking funds', clearly not the funds from parking though. This time, they've take some of the new exercise equipment from Carr Lane, which hasn't been there very long, it was a poor substitute for a play area, but it was better than the void that the open left, they'll get their money, again, and I'd bet good money that won't get replaced either!

Call it a hunch or some ethereal, other worldly feeling but I get the impression you don't quite welcome the Open being at Birkdale - I could be wrong.

Honest to God we get this MAJOR World event in golf, what every ten years and muppets on here are bickering on about dog walking access, Carr Friggin Lane, minimum wage, etc , etc , etc. For Christs sake get into the real world, we should be very proud that this event STILL comes her with all the negativity some tossers on here have. Words sometime fail me!!

One of my sons has a got a job there £ 8.20 an hour (he is 18) - so a good rate for him compared to other jobs. Temporary job suits him before he goes to uni.

Good grief, many of our young people have jobs there and most of them don't have kids. I live near Carr Lane and no-one uses the gym equipment. Stop moaning!

I think it is great that they are hosting The Open again. Great for the area.

I use it most weeks and quite often a few times a week and see many others that do. I even had a lady stop me in the Co-op to ask how my workouts were going. The schoolkids are always on the equipment too both after school and as a warm up when they are using Carr 'friggin' Lane for sports practice as Farnborough and Birkdale often do.
Just because you don't see anyone using it, it doesn't mean the equipment isn't in use!
