The country has just celebrated National Volunteering Week and WWT Martin Mere Wetland Centre is taking the opportunity to thank all of our volunteers for their hard work over the last 70 years with WWT and 41 years with Martin Mere.

Volunteer Development Officer, Amy Hannah, said: “We now have over 180 volunteers at Martin Mere. Nationally, we have over 900 volunteers, we quite simply couldn’t function without them. It’s great that we can use national volunteering week to really say thank you for all their hard work, especially as the Trust is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year. Volunteering gives opportunities, our youngest 16 year olds volunteer to stand out on their university and job applications, whilst our mature volunteers can learn new skills and meet new friends. Our oldest volunteer was 89 years years old which shows it is never too late to come and volunteer at Martin Mere.”

The centre is currently looking for enthusiastic volunteers of all ages to come and join our education, visitor services and canoe safari team this summer.

The roles that the Centre specifically needs to recruit are volunteers to work with our education team to do weekend and holiday activities which could include bug hunts, pond dipping, family crafts and giving out passports as part of our Nature Explorer summer activities that also includes the return of the Lego brick animals; in addition volunteers are needed to help with the canoe safari attraction to join the team offering this award winning facility; and also to meet and greet visitors on our visitor services team.
