The sky’s the limit for students on an AFC Fylde Community Foundation programme.

They were recently invited on a behind-the-scenes tour of BAE Systems Warton site, providing a unique opportunity to see some of the world’s most advanced aerospace technology.

The once-in-a-lifetime trip was made possible due to the close working relationship the Community Foundation has with BAE Systems. For the past two years, the company has been the Foundation’s principle partner.

The invitation for the comprehensive tour was extended to Foundation staff and first-year Futsal Scholars. They were privileged to be able to take an inside look at the aircraft assembly line and were given the opportunity to try out the Typhoon simulator to ‘fly’ through the Mach Loop, a low-level flying route in Wales which is used by fast jet pilots across the globe to test their skills.

The focus of the trip was to give the scholars an insight into the many and varied career opportunities at BAE Systems and the employment prospects available within the local community. They were able to discover for themselves how they could join the company’s award-winning training programmes when they have completed their education.

Alex Moore, Communications Director at BAE Systems, said: “We are proud to be a partner of the AFC Fylde Community Foundation and recognise the great work it does to offer opportunities to people across the community within which we are based.

“As a company, we have a commitment to inspire young people to consider careers linked to science, technology, engineering and maths subjects, and we hope this little taste of what goes in to making a world-leading aircraft inspires some of our visitors to consider these careers.â€

The site tour was an overwhelming success. One student who took part, Lucas Kilgallon, said: “The day was fantastic. With my parents already working at BAE Systems I think I enjoyed the opportunity that extra bit more.

“We have the company logo on our kit and promotional banners and it was a great experience to actually go in and find out more about the company which supports the work the Community Foundation does.â€
