Second week of action targeting wanted fugitives begins, Police are asking the public to look at the faces of people they are really interested in talking to about some ongoing cases.

And after the success of Operation Chapar in September, where not only 91 people were caught by our search teams but a further 88 people handed themselves in, we’re calling on fugitives to again see sense and do the right thing.

Superintendent Mark Morgan who is coordinating the force wide operation, which involves local policing officers, detectives, traffic cops and specialist search teams, said the public could follow the hashtag #MPCommunityFirst for arrests in their area.

He said: “Operation Chapar has already resulted in dozens of outstanding offenders and people wanted for serious offences being brought into custody and put before the courts or back in prison. A concerted effort by officers from different areas and with different specialisms working together led to 91 people being caught. In addition, as word spread on social media and in the press about our operation, a further 88 people who knew we were trying to find them did the right thing and handed themselves in.

“During this second wave of coordinated activity I would urge the public to support us in making our communities safer by sharing any information they have got about individuals we are actively trying to trace. Our website and social media accounts will have plenty of faces of people we want to talk to and daily successes will be publicised using the hashtag #MPComunityFirst.

“If you recognise someone and think you might know where they are then please help us progress our investigations into some very serious offences by calling Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or direct message us on social media @MerpolCC.”

What a load of scumbags - so many offences against women and pensioners. I bet they think they're really hard!
