Growth in passenger throughput has continued at Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA) during 2017, with latest figures showing that 517,000 passengers chose to fly through LJLA in August compared to the same period last year – an increase of 3% and the Airport’s highest monthly figure since August 2011.

Over 70,000 more passengers have used the Airport so far this year, with the busy August helping to boost total passenger numbers for the year to date to almost 3.4 million.

The growth comes on the back of a number of new routes added throughout 2017. Blue Air have added new scheduled services to Alicante, Milan, Larnaca and Rome, whilst other new routes include Ryanair’s services to Prague, Bari and Girona, Wizz Air’s new route to Lublin and TUI’s new service to Ibiza.

More new routes are to operate from Liverpool later in the year too, with flights due to commence to Venice and Milan Malpensa operated by easyJet and Ryanair respectively. In addition, Superbreak will also launch a dedicated charter service to Iceland, whilst Transun and Santa’s Lapland are offering increased Lapland charters later this year.

Air Service Development Director, Paul Winfield commented ”We are delighted to see continued growth at Liverpool John Lennon Airport and continue to work with existing and new operators to explore further opportunities from here.

The passenger experience remains one of our key focus areas as passengers across the North West can enjoy the ‘Faster, Easier, Friendlier environment at Liverpool John Lennon Airport.”

Oooh! Are there a lot of people leaving the UK then?

Actually - it is far easier to negotiate around John Lennon airport than most other airports in the UK, and a lot friendlier.

There was just one time that I remember well - one winter when many planes were delayed due to bad weather. We were crossing over to Ireland and the number of passengers catching flights was growing by the hour. The airport authorities thought the situation may get out of hand, so as a prevention to any violence they installed a line of black uniformed, armed responders along the upper balcony - to every one's absolute amusement. The hundreds of potential travellers were all in good spirits - literally or otherwise - and the number of jokes made over the armed Police really made the wait worthwhile.

I have used quite a number of airports in the U.K. and I have to say Liverpool John Lennon is undoubtedly the best. Easy to navigate around and unlike Manchester friendly staff. Heathrow is the worst followed by Manchester, Robin Hood is quite good too.

I will never ever use Liverpool airport again, simply because of their insistence on stealing £3 from you everytime you enter of leave the airport.

I used Southend Airport last week, I guess it is probably a little like Robin Hood. Security were waiting for me, uncrowded good value cafe and bar. two minute walk from the train station to the terminal with trains every 15 minutes into central London.

Smaller airports are invariably more "user friendly" than their larger counterparts due to simple logistics. Liverpool is handy for certain short haul journeys but there isn't room for two major airports in the north west of England and Manchester has firmly established itself as the major hub.
