The plods, as usual, more concerned with twitter and "wrong think" than real crimes. I guess sitting in an office playing on t'internet beats dealing with grooming gangs and rising violent crime.

Written by some one else, I'm no where articulate enough to put this across so clearly... Please read....

Alfie was born healthy in may 2016 to Thomas and Kate aged 18 & 19.
At age 2 months he developed a new strabismus (squint) and showed subtle signs of delayed development (lack of head control, sleeping all the time and not reaching for things).
At 6 months he was taken to a specialist children's doctor who formally documented his development as being that of a 6-8 week old baby.
An MRI scan was performed that showed widespread abnormal changes in his brain, specifically the cortex which were not associated with any specific neurological syndrome but suggested mitochondrial disease
Alfie then developed a fever and shortly after seizures that perissted. He rapidly deteriorated, having short episodes of apnea (no breathing), so he was moved to the intensive care unit at Alder Hey. He has remained there since December 2016.
15 months ventilated with a machine via a tube directly into his lungs, a feeding tube in his stomach, and hydration into his blood-stream.
Subsequent MRI scans have shown the progressive and severe destruction of the brain and brainstem, further suggesting mitochondrial disease.
Later EEGs were taken of Alfie's brain, documented to be "essentially" flat, consistent with no upper brain activity whatsoever.
The electrical tracings of his brain and images show zero activity. The bit that makes him him, is damaged beyond all repair. He may move twitch with reflexes or seizures but this is not consciousness.
We don't have any way to reverse brain damage. From the day you are born you lose brain cells at a rate of ~9000/day. we have no way to reverse this. if we did we could cure stroke, dementia, brain injury, Parkinsons, MS and potentially aging itself.
Bembino Gesu, the paediatric hospital in the Vatican that has offered to take Alfie has not offered any treatment.
They offered to cut a small hole in Alfie's neck so the breathing tube can be placed directly into his lungs instead of his nose, and that's it.
They offered no further tests or specialist diagnosis.
Several courts and appeals have all agreed that the best they can do for Alfie is to remove his life support and allow him to die with dignity and comfort.

Can we PLEASE take this Post OFF. It's serving no worthwhile purpose other than to wind every ****er up.

Best let the family take the lad to Italy, have done with it and if it works out one way or another so be it.

But for Christ's sake stop going on about it, all you Doctors!!!

Alfie Evans was diagnosed as suffering from epilepsy which caused his fits. These seizures can be initiated from contracting an earlier illness, a head injury or they can be genetic. Epilepsy is notoriously difficult to diagnose, in young children, it can only be estimated by an elimination process. One third of the cases termed as epilepsy are misdiagnosed. If medication was prescribed for misdiagnosed epilepsy the result would be further deterioration of the condition, coma and death. Earlier in this case - it was stated that Alfie suffered sleep abnormalities - could it not have been that Alfie had narcolepsy as opposed to epilepsy?
It is wrong to state that brain conditions cannot be reversed! For many neurological disorders, the survival rate can be as high as 50% - 75%.

Well it's certainly winding YOU up.

You seem to miss the point of discussion boards. They're for discussing and sharing views and opinions. You always have the option not to open a thread if it is something you'd rather not contemplate - but not to censor others.

Regardless of the medical condition of the poor lad, the fact is that the staff at Alder Hey do a magnificent job at saving lives every single day.

The mob of morons that are trying to storm the hospital, daily, are nothing but a bunch of ********s that should be arrested. Setting off fire alarms when there are children on the operating table? Subhuman scum jumping on a reason to cause trouble. Threatening hospital staff? Following doctors home? I'd wager that not one of these has a single spark of intelligence in their tiny minds. I doubt that they can even read, never mind read up on Alfie's condition.

Flooding social media with idiot rantings that the doctors are murderers, that Alfie is being used as an 'experiment'?

    Utterly disgusting.

Many of them do. Some of them don't. Medical and administrative staff should not be beyond public scrutiny. Withholding oxygen, food and water from a patient is not care. Nor should we forget that not so long ago Alder Hey was caught selling the body parts of live children to commercial companies without the consent of parents or anybody else. I'm sure that there are many fine people working there. There are also some without any sense of right and wrong.

You make it sound like the body snatchers. While I'm not condoning the practice, At least try putting it into context.

The context was the hospital (as an arm of the state) assumed ownership of people without their consent or that of their parents. Much as has happened in this case.

If you say so mate. You're clearly an expert in all things medical.

Tonight Alfie's father has asked for "supporters" and others to back off, he will now work WITH Alder Hey to try to get the best treatment relevant for Alfie.

It has also become clear that the Christian Legal whatever are responsible for more than a little of the rabble rousing, watched the pathetic spectacle of one of their group trying to say that the idiot who was calling for doctors to be prosecuted, (said idiot is a member of the group) was speaking entirely on his own behalf and not stating the opinion of the group.

Let's just hope that outside and unwanted interference will stop and possibly a suitable track can be found.

Probably best that we do as Tom Evans requests and just back off.
