A risk assessor has contacted Qlocal regarding the newly installed Average Speed Cameras on the Banks to Tarleton bypass.

SUBJECT - The Tarleton By-Pass SERP Cameras.

Now that the Open Golf Tournament is over I would have thought the Authorities that have control over the Tarleton By-Pass would by now be rethinking their traffic flow plans as the current SERP Average Speed Camera Control is now a total flop. All that this SERP system has provided for is the longest convoy ever entering Southport and its just as bad leaving Southport.

So what has gone wrong with this By-Pass over the last few weeks?

I can understand the motorists anger, as they say, seeing another cash till installed to fleece the motorist. But my view is somewhat different, that the Authorities have completely failed in their duty to reduce the hazards on this By-Pass to (as low as reasonably practical) known in the Health & Safety trade as ALARP. Of course this SERP (Average Speed Cameras) is all in the name of road safety and to cut down accidents.

As an Accredited Risk Assessor, I am baffled as to why only the speed hazard has been flagged up as the only one hazard. Not wanting to bore everybody, but I would like the Authorities to explain to us motorists why is the Longton By-Pass (sister) to the Tarleton By-Pass, why it starts with a round about has another in the middle and one at the end. Vehicles can enter the By-Pass on each side but the entering is to go with the flow.

    THERE ARE NO CROSSINGS

The Tarleton By-Pass starts with a round about has one in the middle all the authorities had to do then was to install another round about at Blackgate Lane end of the By-Pass, then close off all the crossings and leave the vehicles that wanted to join the flow of traffic can do so on either side.

This would then reduce to ALARP all the 4 MAJOR HAZARDS (crossings) on the Tarleton By-Pass at once and the speed could have stayed the same as the Longton By-Pass, then reduced to 50mph at the last round about’s at each, exactly like the Longton By-Pass

So come on Authorities please explain your failure to reduce the MAJOR HAZARDS to ALARP. That is if you are really concerned with ROAD SAFETY or is it your CASH SAFETY you're worried about?

Correct, as I have been saying for ages CLOSE the crossovers and build a roundabout at Blackgate Lane. Open up the closed lanes at Mere Brow and put the speed back to what it has always been 70. By all means keep the cameras but set them at 70mph. No problem with Blackgate Lane - Tarleton lights being 50.
