At least one group of Ormskirk residents will have some extra piece of mind should there be a repeat of the flooding which drowned them out on Boxing Day...
This new brick wall's been built on Dyers Lane thanks to a Government funded scheme administered by the Borough Council; one student landlord from Burscough's paid an additional £2,000 to have a special flood resistant gate installed, too.
This afternoon. a Council PR officer told QLocal: "In 2016, the government announced a one-off scheme to provide grants of up to £5,000 to homeowners and businesses flooded as a result of heavy rains between Christmas and New Year 2015, to help fund additional flood resilience or resistance measures.
"West Lancashire Borough Council handled the grant applications in this area, and residents in Dyers Lane, Ormskirk, whose homes were flooded last Christmas worked together to submit an application for a community scheme, using each household’s £5,000 grant allocation.
"This involves the construction of a brick wall to help protect the properties from future flooding. The Borough Council is administering this project, utilising the funding provided by the government.
"The government grant for each house was limited to £5,000 and some householders may be paying for additional work on their properties from their own budgets."
