It's getting more and more difficult for some workers to park in Ormskirk - and here's why.

A few days ago, these new posts were installed off Leyland Way in the continuing battle over restricting parking on private property in the town centre. This patch of free parking was popular with Wetherspoons staff and, at night, takeaway drivers at Barnyard and Food4U.

QLocal's Roger Blaxall took these pictures within a minutes walk of the busy Wheatsheaf car park; it could cost an extra £60 a month for some town centre workers to park from now on unless they chance their arm on another 'private' car park.

Parking in Ormskirk

There are 10 pay and display council car parks in Ormskirk town centre providing approximately 933 parking spaces.

Short stay pay and display

You can park for a maximum of four hours at the short stay pay and display car parks located at Bus Station, Market Way, Lunesdale, Park Road, Park Pool and Wheatsheaf. Please note: The car park located at Two Saints Retail Park on which Aldi, Argos, McDonalds etc are located, is no longer a council car park. The car park is owned privately and parking arrangements and enforcement are carried out by a third party.

Long stay pay and display

Longer stay pay and display parking can be found at The Stiles, Hants Lane, Hutton Way and Derby Street car parks. Contract parking is also available at the Hants Lane car park.

Free parking

Parking on Derby Street car park is free for up to four hours on a Saturday.

All council car parks are free after 5.30pm (until 8.30am) and all day Sunday and on Bank Holidays.
