Ormskirk's Edge Hill University has been named the fifth best university in the Northwest by The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2019.

But it only ranks 59th in the UK with 77% of students going on to find professional work or further education after graduation.

Lancashire boasts four universities in the national top 50 – Lancaster (sixth), Manchester (19th), Liverpool (31st) and Liverpool Hope (50th).

The new edition of the guide claims to provide the definitive rankings for UK universities and the most comprehensive overview of higher education in Britain, and includes profiles on 132 universities and makes use of the latest data published in the past two months.

The guide showed that the teaching quality at Edge Hill was 82.9%, students rated their experience at 81.1%, and 71.9% of students gained firsts and 2:1s.

The guide says the following about EHU: “It may have been to some a surprising name on the list of five new medical schools announced this year but it has been confounding sceptics since it became a university in 2005 and is among the top dozen post-1992 universities in our table.

“Rated gold in the Teaching Excellence Framework – one of only three in the northwest to achieve the top award in its first year – Edge Hill was commended for its academic support, assessment and feedback.

"The panel noted that 'students from diverse backgrounds achieve consistently outstanding outcomes'. Almost all its students are state-educated and the projected dropout rate is much better than the university's benchmark.”

Just bet the People Of Ormskirk are absolutely thrilled for them! Wonder just how much revinue the tax paying people of Ormskirk have lost over the past 15 years due to Students and Student Landlords having to pay no local tax like the rest of us, young or Old we have to pay this money to pay for our local services which of course the students and Landlords take full advantage of! This money could have been used for grass cutting, planting flowers, supporting the elderly etc. Instead it’s supporting profit making Land Lords, it’s very kind of us don’t you think?

I wasn't aware Manchester and Liverpool were now in Lancashire!!!

And 5th in the NorthWest is a terrible rank
