The Civil Aviation Authority has expressed concerns over Edge Hill University's new 'runway' car park
It's believed to have criticised the layout and lighting of its biggest car park following complaints from a number of amateur pilots have been getting confused and disorientated, mistaking the main St Helens Road car park as a runway at night.
One, Les Large from Woodvale - better known as Big Les among fellow flyers - said one Chinese pilot, Wrong Wei, nearly came to grief on his first solo flight as he mistook the car park and almost tried to land there; he only pulled out of his landing manoeuvre at the last minute.
A meeting's being arranged as a matter or urgency between the CAA and EHU to discuss the issue.

Nice one for April 1st!
Seriously though the car parks do look like airport car parks. A park and ride scheme from J3 and some undercroft or modest multistorey car parking should be considered but alas that seems almost as much a fantasy as this story.

Think it may have been the pilot's cousin Wong Wonn.
