The new Ormskirk Heritage Trail has just been printed and the official launch will take place on Tuesday 23rd January.
Devised and published by Ormskirk Community Partnership, the Trail is the result of two year’s work and has been funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
Using the printed map or downloading the map on a smart phone or computer, residents and visitors will be able to follow a tour of the historically interesting buildings around Ormskirk town centre; each site on the trail has been illustrated by Aughton artist Stephanie Guy and details of the sites are on the reverse of the map.
In addition to the Trail guide, people will also be able to access the new Ormskirk Gingerbread Heritage website giving additional information on Ormskirk’s history - an exciting feature of the website is the collection of films by Andrew Fenner where ‘Gingy’, our own Gingerbread model, tours the Heritage Trail with tales to tell along the way.
And an opportunity to walk down memory lane is available with recorded memories from residents of Ormskirk featured on the website while articles by Dot Hawkes will highlight interesting facts of Ormskirk’s heritage.
Gingerbread has been a prominent feature of Ormskirk’s history and Ormskirk Community Partnership has commissioned items of gingerbread memorabilia – Gingerbread ceramic models, Heritage Trail mugs, notebooks and postcards.
Several of our full-size Gingerbread models are displayed around the town including one at the Cricketers pub, wearing a painted tee shirt of Ormskirk scenes, illustrated by local artist Anton Dolders of Southport.
Thanks to the funding from the Heritage Lottery, OCP has been able to complete the Ormskirk Heritage Project to promote Ormskirk to residents and visitors alike.
