Residents living in West Lancashire Borough Council’s Knowsley Ward are being reminded on how they can vote to elect a new Councillor at the By-Election on Thursday 26 July 2018.
Residents can either vote at their polling station or they can apply for a postal vote if they prefer. Alternatively residents can apply for a proxy vote, where they nominate someone to vote in the polling station on their behalf.
Kim Webber, Returning Officer for the By-Election, said: “It is great to see voters on the day but if you prefer, or if you are away, or are housebound, you can apply for a postal or a proxy vote by contacting the Borough Council. To vote in this election, either by post, proxy or going to the polling station, you must be on the Electoral Register.”
To assist people, the detail of the applications process is as follows:
Knowsley Ward residents who received poll cards for, or voted in, the May 2018 Borough Council elections do not need to register again to vote in the Knowsley Ward By-Election. If in doubt, people can check whether they’re registered to vote by calling the Council’s Elections Office on 01695 585014.
You can fill in an online registration by visiting https://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote. For more information please email elections.office@westlancs.gov.uk. If you do not have access to the internet please ask the elections office for a paper registration form to be sent to you. The closing date to register to vote in the Knowsley Ward By-Election is Tuesday 10 July 2018.
Postal or Proxy Votes
To request an application form for a postal or proxy vote please call the Elections Office on 01695 585014, email elections.office@westlancs.gov.uk or download an application form from www.westlancs.gov.uk/howtovote. Or call in to: The Council Offices, 52 Derby Street, Ormskirk, West Lancashire, L39 2DF. Your completed application form for a postal vote must reach the Council by 5pm on Wednesday 11 July 2018, and completed application forms for a proxy vote must arrive by 5pm on Wednesday 18 July 2018.
Emergency Proxy Votes
Applications to vote by emergency proxy at this election can be applied for on grounds of physical incapacity, where that physical incapacity occurred after 5pm on Wednesday 18 July 2018, or for work/service reasons, again occurring after 5pm on Wednesday 18 July 2018, and must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at 52 Derby Street, Ormskirk, West Lancashire, L39 2DF by 5pm on Thursday 26 July 2018.
