Burscough Richmond 6 Hawcoat Park 0.

Richmond were buoyed by this result leading into the semi final of the Lancashire FA Shield at Bamber Bridge FC. tomorrow night at 7.30pm v Garstang.

The home side's finishing on the day was both accurate and deadly against a Barrow side who aren't having too bad a season and are a place higher in the league.

The visitor's started the game on a mild and perfect day for football, the 3pm predicted rainfall gladly didn't materialise.

Richmond gained possession from their opponents in the first few seconds of the game and came very close to opening their account. A delicate chip by Jordan Lorde over the oncoming Hawcoat keeper Ben Mills, with a wonderful layoff by midfielder Ian McKinty, the ball so nearly making it over the line, but just being cleared by a covering defender at the very last moment for a corner kick.

The resulting corner by midfielder Ryan Giller found Lee Morton, the central defender up for the set piece, rose high above the visitors’ defender's to drive the ball into the back of the net with a headed goal. Referee Mr. Sims unfortunately dismissing the goal for an earlier infringement, which only the referee had spotted?

On sixteen minutes Morton did have a goal allowed; a free kick by Captain Lee McNabb, twenty five yards out, found the head of Morton who once again out jumped his markers, heading past Mills to give Richmond a one nil lead - a quality goal at the second attempt, which pleased the centre half after a long spell out injured.

Richmond were commanding between the first goal and a penalty given for a foul on Lorde nearing halftime; a mammoth kick from Richmond stand in goalkeeper Ben Barnes found Lorde ten yards short and to the left of the Hawcoat penalty area. A strong run into the box looked to be of no avail, as the Richmond striker seemed to lose control, gained the ball back again, and then was unceremoniously upended in the six yard box. Mr. Sims was in no doubt, the referee giving the penalty, much to the protests of the away team bench.

Lorde took the penalty and made no mistake with his low driven effort into the corner of the net.
Giving the striker a third penalty success in seven days.

On the resumption of the second half Richmond piled on the pressure, although not the most fluent of football, the home side were making chances and finding the back of the net.

The third goal did not take long to materialise, Lorde was once again in the thick of things and was brought down just outside the penalty box on 55 minutes.
The Richmond top goal scorer - always looking to add to his tally - took the kick, the ball beating the defensive wall and goalkeeper Mills outstretched hand to nestle in the far corner if the net,

Ash Disley's fourth goal was a classic set piece from a time in a lower league. The substitute centre half on for Lee Morton found the back of the net on sixty minutes from a Ryan Giller corner.
Disley unmarked at the far post stretched and just managed to get his head to the ball, forcing the ball off the inside of the post and into the net, Disley always good for a goal.

Ian McKinty came up with number five on the sixty fifth minute, good lead up play from the Richmond midfield gave the striker the space to glide the ball past the oncoming keeper with his weaker left foot, Mills in the Hawcoat goal once again left terribly exposed.

Substitute Anthony Murt made it six, clever play by the big forward inside the box, led to the second penalty of the game, and once again referee Sims having no hesitation and pointing to the spot.
Murt took the kick and beat the forlorn Mills in what had been a woeful afternoon for the keeper, but not entirely of his own making.

Ryan Giller was given Man of the Match, the hard working midfielder always on hand in creating chances and breaking down opposition attacks over the ninety minutes.

Manager Mike Clandon was obviously pleased with his side's goal scoring escapades, but gave a special mention to three of the goal scorers - Morton, Disley and Murt – who’ve played very little football this season due to injury or work.
