Report and photos from Louise Rees
A little bit of history was made at the Aughton Park care home open day last week; not only is it our first choir, but it was their first ever performance!
We have been rehearsing every week since January and it was worth every moment of hard work.
Cecil Beach and Len Ellis gave solo performances, and we sang a mixture of folk, musicals and sing long favourites which the choir chose.
Quite a few were sang unaccompanied to show off our musical talents, which was very demanding of our residents living with memory problems as we had to learn new suitable endings and performance directions for each song - it just shows you the power of music with memory as the residents were able to remember this new learning.
The audience were delighted by our efforts and we celebrated with a lovely tea party using the china tea cups, washed down with gallons of tea and coffee - and amazingly scrummy cakes made by Janice Lee.
