Residents of Queens Court, Aughton Street, have called upon their local councillors to help address parking problems at the sheltered housing block in Ormskirk town centre.

Borough Councillors Nikki Hennessy and Adam Yates were invited along by the Chair of the Queens Court Residents’ Association, Frank Jones, to hear first-hand about the problems facing residents when trying to park near their homes.

Queens Court has only two allocated parking places for tenants, which means that residents are left having to use the on-street parking on Aughton Street, which is only available for a maximum of three hours to blue badge holders.

Following a recent spate of parking tickets being given to residents, they decided to call on their Knowsley Ward councillors to help and to see if anything could be done to improve the parking situation near the building.

Cllr Nikki Hennessy said, “We were very sorry to hear the problems residents have been having but were grateful to them for inviting us along and taking the time to explain in detail how their lives are being affected by this.

“Issues such as this can have a big impact on residents, many of whom have mobility issues and so are unable to walk far to reach their vehicles. It also causes problems for care workers visiting the property and makes it difficult for family members to visit as frequently as they would like.

“Following the meeting, I got straight on to West Lancashire Borough Council, who are responsible for the tenants’ parking spaces, and Lancashire County Council regarding the on-street parking, and we are now in discussions about making improvements to the parking arrangements for Queens Court.

“I would like to thank Frank and all of the residents for their very friendly welcome and I can assure them we will keep working on this until we get the improvements made.”
