A sprightly Ormskirk pensioner is giving townsfolk a lesson in civic pride - at the age of 79.
QLocal's Roger Blaxall caught up with Norma Gibbons as she trimmed the hedges on County Road just a stonesthrow from her Southport road house.
Locals will see her out regularly making sure the hedge near the junction with Halsall lane is always looking its best - a far cry from how the County and Borough councils look after the roadside.
She was also happy to show Blaxall her pretty as a picture garden at the end of Kinloch Way which she keeps in immaculate order - that brick wall she's standing next to was washed away in the 2105 Boxing Day floods but thanks to action by MP Rosie Cooper and others it's been rebuilt.
The recent warm, wet weather's seen an explosion of weeds in the gutters and government cuts mean that features like the fire station roundabout are now a shambles.
What price an army of Norma’s being let loose on Ormskirk to give the place a good tidy up every now and again?

Norma does an amazing job with that little garden. With NO power tools.
