County councillor Nikki Hennessy is demanding Police take immediate action regarding dangerous parking along Southport Road near the notorious Southport Road and County Road junction.

These cars are being parked 24/7 on the pavement, causing a dangerous obstruction, blocking pushchairs and wheelchairs from getting through and forcing pedestrians on to the road.

Such an obstruction is a police matter, and this evening CC Hennessy told QLocal: "I have been contacted by many local residents and people from the surrounding area who use this pavement on a regular basis. Never before have they come across such selfish and dangerous parking.

"These drivers clearly have no road sense or consideration for their neighbours or general public, especially people with children or in a wheelchair.”

“The police are the only authority who can take action regarding such an obstruction. I have contacted them as a matter of urgency and I would ask local people to the same before someone is hurt or seriously injured.”

Local residents have said this situation is dangerous for people trying to get past in the mornings especially with young children;it also restricts the views of cars trying to leave drives onto the road causing a hazard due to oncoming traffic.

"Residents have spoken to the landlord and tenants but have been totally ignored. It's time for the police to do something," said CC Hennessy.

For over 15 years residents have been continuously complaining about the whole of Ormskirk town and local area about the problems and dangers of Student parking anywhere and everywhere ! And pretending to be astonished is in itself astonishing!

Yet our Council continues to give planning permission to Edge Hill for more and more accommodation with absolutely no provision being made for parking. Police say it takes to long to book offenders so don’t bother, WLBC say it’s a police matter, as do the county Council. So year in year out nothing and I mean nothing ever being done, quit frankly it’s outragious!

A Large student accommodation in the town centre with no parking facility had restriction place on building consent that states “tenants had to agree not to have a car or access to a car” yet many of them do have vehicles and tell me nobody has told them they can’t have a car. So these restrictions are simply unless and defiantly not being enforced!
