The fur was really flying – in the nicest possible way – when a new Burscough cafe opened on Wednesday.

And it was a case of ‘ready, teddy, go!’ as the ribbon was cut at one of the quirkiest cafes in the borough as Jean Pritchard realised a dream after many a year.

She is best known for her teddy bear and doll hospital on The Wharf with the Teddy Bears Coffee Shop, now open next to St John the Baptist Church, appealing to children of all ages.

Doing the honours was internationally known teddy bear collector Jena Pang and his bear Kensington who travelled up from Southend on Sea and stayed for over an hour chatting to customers. The arctophile* later appeared with John Gillmore on his Christmas lights special from Abbey Wood Lodge care home, Ormskirk.

Joining in the fun was Rev Simon Glynn from the church and curate Rev. Ian Jones along with family and friends; the cafe will be serving all manner of coffee and other drinks made by, ahem, ‘Bearistas’ Emma and Thalia.
