Local Mayor Liz Savage swapped her usual Mayoral finery for a warm coat and jeans as she gained a unique insight into the work of the Ormskirk Street Pastors on Saturday night.
She began her visit with a welcoming hot cup of tea at the group's new base at Age UK on Moorgate before seeing what a typical night holds for the dedicated volunteers.
Said Dave Mutch, one of the founder members: "It was great to welcome the Mayor on one of our regular night patrols. She is very sympathetic and supportive of our work"
Launched in January 2011, the Ormskirk Street Pastors, who are all drawn from local churches, have been listening, caring for and helping people in Ormskirk town centre every weekend since. They are still looking for volunteers to join them - if you are over 18 and attend a local church, contact Dave on 07896 991 090.
