The Edge Hill parking chaos seen every September and October in recent years looms large again because Lancashire Parking Services are frustrating coordinated action according to a Derby ward councillor.
And now Councillor Adrian Owens has written to the LCC highways portfolio holder, Ormskirk's John Fillis, asking that he intervenes.
Cllr Owens told QLocal today: "It’s entirely predictable that the residential areas around the University will experience dangerous and obstructive parking in the first few weeks of the academic year.
"That’s why the local police and I raised the matter at the Freshers’ Group Meeting with a host of agencies in June.
"Since then, Borough Council officers and the local police sergeant have provided information about the streets affected but the response from Lancashire Parking Services has been dismissive.
"I discovered earlier this year that parking enforcement resources had been deliberately removed from West Lancashire in favour of Preston and other areas, but the start of year parking around Edge Hill is a predictable problem and as council taxpayers we should expect a positive response from Lancashire Parking Services, not the terse and negative replies they have provided.”
Cllr Owens has now written to Cllr Fillis requesting he gets involved.
“Cllr Fillis lives in Ormskirk, and knows full well the problems caused at the start of the academic year with parking.
"For the sake of road safety and the amenity of local residents he needs to get West Lancashire our fair share of parking enforcement time and ensure Lancashire Parking Services plays a positive role in the same way that every other local agency does with Freshers’ planning.”

What a complete non-story. This is the first instance of penalties being issued before a single car has been parked up.
Extensive parking arrangements are in place at EHU, including more spaces on site than ever and a free bus service. Nearby residential streets are controlled parking zones so what more can be done.
A typical hysterical rant by Owens. Joined by his former Tory colleagues he's formed his right-wing anti-student and anti-EHU lobby group Our West Lancashire.
Save Ormskirk! - Save it from the right-wing Tory lobby group calling themselves OWL's

I think Owens is one step ahead of the competition. The horrendous traffic and nightmare parking that EHU creates year-in-year-out for the residents and visitors of Ormskirk is a disgrace. Clearly Labour don't give a hoot, other wise it would be taking a leaf out of OWL's book and doing something about it. You Lefties are all for shouting and making a fuss when in Opposition, but now it's your turn to puff your chests out you all go quiet.
