Breathe Easy members discovered the power of music at their last meeting

No wonder – because the Power of Music group were there to instruct and encourage us as they lead us in song.

Singing is a most useful and helpful activity for patients with respiratory problems, exercising the muscles of the chest and expanding the lungs, - besides being a really social activity and a big boost to emotional well-being!

Having enjoyed a full hour of singing with gusto, we expressed our grateful thanks to the three members of the Power of Music group, Ken Holt, Jacquie Sutton and Nicola Sutton, all of whom live locally.

They told us about their Songbirds Community Choirs, which meet each Tuesday evening at Ormskirk's Brookside from 6.30 to 8pm, and another meeting at All Saints Church, Hesketh Bank on Friday morning from 10.30 a.m.to noon. Both groups always make new members welcome.

Later on the same day, the Power of Music group also appeared at a big event at Ormskirk Fiveways organised by the British Lung foundation, at which the speakers included Dr. S. Youzguin, Respiratory Consultant based at both our local hospitals and over 100 invited guests, respiratory patients from local GP surgeries, were able to learn more about the local NHS and Charity services available to them, including British Lung Foundation and local Breathe Easy Groups.

The next public meeting of the West Lancashire and Southport Breathe Easy Group will take place on Monday, 24th April, from 11 am to approximately 12.30 pm. Light refreshments will be served and all are welcome, including new members. Our speaker will be Sally Sharrock, specialist Occupational Therapist and the venue, as usual; the Girl Guide HQ., Green Lane, Ormskirk, L39 1ND, (next door to the Rugby Club) where ample free parking is available nearby.
