There’s a good 20 odd miles between the A570 and the A57 but either the county council -or its hapless contractors - have managed to engineer a wonderful cock up as they renamed (or rather renumbered) a major road through Ormskirk!

It had all been going so well, too with excellent repairs to the A570 Derby St. and the railway bridge surface completed over two weeks or so with white lining being finished on Thursday evening.

But it was really a case of from ‘hero to zero’ – or the lack of one - as the team from Ventbrook traffic management missed a vital '0' off the A57 sign; that main road runs from Warrington into Manchester through Irlam.

And don’t hold your breath for a quick fix - folk in Simonswood are still waiting for the Simmonswood (sic) signs to be corrected three years on...
