Who scalped the grass at the gateway to Ormskirk?
A group of pupils from St. Anne’s could have made a better job of the once immaculately maintained fire station roundabout which has received a cursory short back and sides from the county council.
Commented Barry Critchley of Halsall: "The roundabout is like a wilderness! It has always been beautifully maintained and fully planted with summer flowers this time of year. It’s the gateway to Ormskirk, what has gone wrong? It’s an utter disgrace!"
Jim Kelly, Lancashire County Council area highways manager for West Lancashire, said: "We're sorry for the recent lack of maintenance to the roundabout by the fire station, which is due to an oversight having arisen during the process of the county council taking over the cutting of highway vegetation from the borough council in the last year.
"Following the grass being cut we will look to establish a low-maintenance scheme of planting to improve its appearance in keeping with this location being a gateway to Ormskirk."
Or why not ask the local community to adopt it?
